Rocks and Water Sculpture

Year 5 - May 2009

Looking closely at Year 5’s topic of Rocks and Water a huge relief frieze was created whilst researching the rock and water cycle, as well as a 19th Century metal cast sculpture.  Fossils and stalactites formed the basis of a 3d collage made from cardboard, sponge, paper and fabric held together with plaster and ModRoc to create a “magical cave” with rocks and the water feature fountain with gently flowing water added to the ambience.  Mirrors created the intrigue of reflection enhancing the overall effect whilst brushing the surface with silver completed the artwork.

The children once again were enthusiastic about the project and their developing skills served to produce a magnificent entrance to the school which is much admired by all.
