Physical Education
Through P.E we aim to encourage a lifetime love of sport and being active.
P.E is a vital part of school life and ultimately children’s future well-being. It is therefore our intent to provide an inclusive, broad and balanced P.E curriculum that ensures ALL children will benefit, whether through enhancing existing skills, learning new skills or being introduced to new sports, clubs, teams and organisations.
It is our intent to ensure children understand the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and to equip them with the tools to do so through health and well-being education. Children must understand how to take care of themselves both physically and mentally in order to be successful as adults.
Beyond merely a subject, we believe that participation in sporting activity is a key element of developing a school in which pupils are proud of the community in which they belong. Therefore, great emphasis is placed upon additional sporting opportunities beyond the lesson within after-school clubs and inter-school competitions. This is another way in which we can positively engage with our local community and be active citizens within it.
In Early Years Foundation Stage opportunities will be provided for children to be active and to develop their co-ordination, control and movement through moving and handling activities which involve the use of a range of equipment and involve different spatial experiences.
Pupils in both KS1 and KS2 will engage in lessons of high quality P.E each week. In KS1 the curriculum focuses on fundamental movement skills to develop agility, balance and co-ordination. Curriculum content includes ball skills and team games, gymnastic and dance activities. At KS2 pupils will continue to apply and develop a range of skills and units of work which include a range of invasion, net/wall, and fielding and striking games, gymnastics, dance, athletics and swimming. Children’s experiences will also be enriched through opportunities to participate in outdoor and adventurous activities. Specialist Sports coaches lead our P.E sessions each week.
